The best electric golf trolleys in 2026

Walking 18 holes with a bag on your back is a workout you didn’t ask for. An electric trolley carries the load, holds a line across the fairway, and — on the models that have it — brakes itself down the hills, so you arrive at your ball with your energy still in the tank for the shot. Do it once and you rarely go back.

This guide covers the full Motocaddy electric range, from the entry-level SE at £499 to the flagship M-Tech GPS. We’ve focused on Motocaddy for a simple reason: it’s the range we stock, service and can put in your hands — you can even hire one first from our Ringwood store. Here’s how the range breaks down and who each model is for.

Best overall: Motocaddy M7 GPS Remote

Price: £1,399 · View the M7 GPS Remote →

The M7 GPS Remote is the trolley that does everything. It pairs full integrated GPS — a 3.5″ touchscreen with 40,000 pre-loaded courses, full-hole mapping and green distances — with genuine remote control, so you can send it ahead, steer it round a bunker, or park it by the next tee from your handset. Twin 230W Downhill Control motors and Adaptive Terrain Stability keep it composed on slopes, and the USB-C remote holds signal past 100 metres. If you want the two headline technologies of modern trolleys — on-board GPS and remote steering — in a single machine, this is the one.

Key specs: Twin 230W DHC motors · 28V lithium · ~14.9 kg · 3.5″ GPS touchscreen (40,000 courses) · USB-C remote handset, 100 m+ range · Adaptive Terrain Stability · CLICK ‘N’ CONNECT cable-free battery · 24-month trolley warranty / 60-month battery.

Who it’s for: The golfer who wants the lot and will use both the GPS and the remote — not just own them. It’s heavier and pricier than a push-button trolley, which is the trade for the technology.

Best value: Motocaddy S1 DHC

Price: £729 (2025 model) · View the S1 DHC →

The S1 DHC is where the range hits its sweet spot. You get the proven S1 platform — LCD widescreen display, nine speed settings, 45-yard Adjustable Distance Control, one-step folding and a lightweight lithium battery — plus Automatic Downhill Control, an electronic parking brake and all-terrain tyres. On any course with real gradient, that DHC upgrade is worth every penny, and as the 2025 model it’s comfortably under £750 while doing almost everything the pricier models do bar GPS and remote.

Key specs: 230W DHC motor · 28V lithium · ~10.2 kg · LCD display · 9 speeds · 45-yard distance control · electronic parking brake · all-terrain DHC tyres · 24-month / 60-month warranty.

Who it’s for: Most golfers, honestly. If you don’t specifically need GPS or remote control, this is the one we’d point you to first — full-featured, hill-ready, and priced sensibly.

Best under £500: Motocaddy SE

Price: £499 · View the SE →

Getting into a quality electric trolley for under five hundred pounds used to mean compromise. The SE is the 2026 entry model and it doesn’t feel like one: one-step folding, the cable-free CLICK ‘N’ CONNECT lithium battery, a whisper-quiet 28V/230W system, Pause & Resume and ambidextrous controls. What you give up versus the S1 is the LCD display and adjustable distance control — you’re running it on simple speed control rather than sending it a set distance ahead. For a first electric trolley, or for the golfer who just wants the weight off their back without the extras, it’s the smart entry point.

Key specs: 230W motor · 28V lithium · ~9.3 kg (one of the lightest in the range) · one-step fold · Pause & Resume · ambidextrous control · 24-month / 60-month warranty.

Who it’s for: First-time electric buyers, and anyone on a budget who wants Motocaddy build quality without paying for a screen they won’t use. An Ultra battery version adds capacity for longer days.

Best GPS: Motocaddy M5 GPS

Price: £999 · View the M5 GPS → (2025 model available at £829 while stock lasts)

If you want the trolley to double as your GPS, the M5 GPS is the value pick before you step up to remote control. The 3.5″ LCD touchscreen carries fully integrated GPS with 40,000 pre-loaded courses, full-hole mapping with a movable target, front/middle/back green distances and hazard info, plus performance tracking and Bluetooth notifications — all updated over Wi-Fi. You steer it the conventional way (60-yard Adjustable Distance Control), so it’s lighter and cheaper than the remote GPS models while giving you the on-course data most golfers actually want.

Key specs: 230W motor · 28V lithium · ~10.5 kg · 3.5″ GPS touchscreen (40,000 courses) · full-hole mapping · 60-yard distance control · Wi-Fi updates · 24-month / 60-month warranty. (DHC version available for hilly courses.)

Who it’s for: Golfers who’d otherwise buy a separate GPS device — here it’s built into the handle, on a bigger screen, with nothing extra to charge or carry.

Best remote control: Motocaddy ME Remote

Price: £999 · View the ME Remote →

Remote control used to be flagship-only. The ME is Motocaddy’s entry into it, and it’s the value way to get a trolley you can send ahead and steer from a handset. Twin 230W DHC motors, forward/left/right/reverse navigation from a rechargeable USB-C remote, Adaptive Terrain Stability for slopes, dual control mode (drive it manually or by remote), an emergency stop and 100 m+ range. It’s heavier than a push-button trolley — that’s the cost of the second motor and the remote gear — but it’s the most affordable route into genuine remote control from a brand you can get serviced.

Key specs: Twin 230W DHC motors · 28V lithium · ~14.4 kg · USB-C remote, 100 m+ range · Adaptive Terrain Stability · dual control mode · emergency stop · 24-month / 60-month warranty. (Step up to the M7 Remote for a larger display and Cartlock; to the M7 GPS Remote to add GPS.)

Who it’s for: Golfers sold on remote control who don’t need GPS built in, and want to spend as little as possible to get there.

Best for small boots: Motocaddy M1

Price: £749 · View the M1 →

Not everyone drives an estate. The M1’s party trick is its ultra-compact fold — it packs down to a noticeably shorter footprint than the S1 — plus an auto-open stand and adjustable handle height. You still get a 2.8″ LCD widescreen display with distance measurements, a Cartlock security PIN, the 28V system and one-step folding convenience. It’s the model to look at first if boot space, or lifting it in and out solo, is your deciding factor.

Key specs: 230W motor · 28V lithium · ~10 kg · 2.8″ LCD display · Cartlock PIN · ultra-compact fold · auto-open stand · adjustable handle height · 24-month / 60-month warranty. (DHC version available.)

Who it’s for: Golfers with a small car or limited storage, and anyone who values how easily it packs away as much as how it drives.

Best premium / flagship: Motocaddy M-Tech GPS

Price: £1,349 · View the M-Tech GPS →

The top of the range we stock, and it looks and feels it. The M-Tech GPS combines full integrated GPS on the 3.5″ touchscreen with genuinely premium finishes: hand-stitched leather handle grips, polished chrome detailing and M-TECH tyres, running the Ultra+ lithium battery. It also carries an extended 36-month trolley warranty, up from the 24 months across the rest of the range. If you play a lot and want the best-finished trolley Motocaddy makes with the reassurance of the longest cover, this is it — and if you want remote control as your flagship feature instead, the M7 GPS Remote is the one.

Key specs: 230W DHC motor · 28V Ultra+ lithium · 3.5″ GPS touchscreen (40,000 courses) · leather grips · chrome detailing · M-TECH tyres · 36-month trolley warranty / 60-month battery.

Who it’s for: The frequent golfer who wants the flagship and will value the finish and the longer warranty. If you won’t use the GPS, save money with a model further up this list.

Every model runs the 28V/230W system with a lithium CLICK ‘N’ CONNECT battery (60-month battery warranty) and is EASILOCK bag-compatible. Most models are stocked in Standard and Ultra battery versions — Ultra carries extra capacity for longer days.

How to choose an electric golf trolley

Set your budget by tier. The range runs from around £500 for the SE to £1,400 for the M7 GPS Remote. As a rough map: ~£500–£750 gets you a capable everyday electric (SE, S1, S1 DHC); ~£750–£850 adds compact folding or a bigger display (M1); ~£1,000+ brings GPS or remote control; and £1,350+ is premium finishes and the longer warranty. Decide which of those features you’ll actually use before you spend up.

Do you need Downhill Control? DHC automatically brakes the trolley on descents so it doesn’t run away from you, and adds an electronic parking brake. If your course has any real gradient, it’s the single upgrade most worth paying for — it’s the difference between a relaxed walk downhill and chasing your bag. On a flat, parkland course it matters far less.

GPS: built in or not? The GPS models put green distances, hazards and full-hole mapping on the handle, replacing a separate device. If you already play with a rangefinder or GPS watch you’re happy with, you can save money and skip it. If you don’t, having it on the trolley is genuinely convenient — nothing extra to carry or charge.

Remote vs push-button control. A remote lets you send the trolley ahead and steer it from a handset — a genuine luxury, especially around the green. It also adds weight (the remote models are ~14 kg vs ~10 kg) and cost. Push-button models are lighter, cheaper and still do the main job of carrying the bag.

Weight, folding and your boot. Trolleys range from ~9 kg to ~15 kg, and folded size varies more than the numbers suggest. If you have a small car or you’ll be lifting it in and out on your own, prioritise a compact folder like the M1 and check the folded dimensions against your boot before buying.

Battery. The whole range uses lightweight lithium batteries carrying a 60-month warranty — long-lasting, quick to charge and far lighter than the old lead-acid packs. Every battery here is rated for at least 18 holes; if you regularly play 36, choose an Ultra version.

Warranty and support. Most models carry a 24-month trolley warranty; the M-Tech extends that to 36 months. Batteries are covered for 60 months across the board. Buying from a retailer who services what they sell matters when something needs looking at — that’s us, from our Ringwood store.

Electric golf trolley FAQs

Are electric golf trolleys worth it?

For most golfers who walk, yes. The payoff is energy saved over 18 holes and better scoring late in the round — you arrive at the closing holes fresher. Not sure? Hire one for a round and see; the hire fee is credited if you buy within 14 days.

How long does the battery last — will it do 18 holes?

Yes. Every model here is rated to complete a full 18-hole round on a single charge, and the lithium batteries recharge quickly between rounds. If you routinely play 36 in a day, choose an Ultra battery version.

Lithium vs lead-acid — does it matter?

Lithium, which the whole current range uses, is significantly lighter, charges faster and lasts longer than the older lead-acid batteries. It’s one of the biggest practical upgrades in modern trolleys.

Do I really need Downhill Control?

On a hilly course, it’s the most worthwhile upgrade in the range — it stops the trolley running away downhill. On a flat course you can comfortably skip it.

Can I use an electric trolley on any course?

Most UK courses allow them, but a few restrict trolleys in wet conditions or to designated paths, and some have local rules. Check with the club if you’re unsure.

Electric or push — which should I buy?

If budget is tight or you want the lightest, simplest option, a push trolley still carries the bag well. If you want to save your energy for your golf, electric is the upgrade — and once you’ve walked with one, going back to pushing is a hard sell.

How we test

We’re a specialist retailer with a shop in Ringwood, and our hire fleet means these trolleys get taken round real courses in the New Forest and Dorset week in, week out. We’re adding first-hand, on-course testing notes to each pick — handling and downhill braking on real slopes, remote range, GPS accuracy against a rangefinder, noise, boot fit and battery life over a full round — as we complete rounds with each model.
